Project Overview

The client purchased an independant RIPE IP address block from IPswiTch Networks. Cisco ISR and Juniper MX series routers connected to multiple ISPs and to the London Internet Exchange. The same IP block is announced via eBGP to all ISP peers to provide the ultimate redundancy. OSPF is used locally.

BGP4 routing allows the same IP block to be announced to any number of ISP peers. The Internet is glued together by BGP4 – this amazing protocol is what allows you to find your way to the almost 1 million networks out there on the Internet, and also for those networks to find their way back to your network.

Many ISPs will offer their own so called “redundant” solutions, but all your data circuits run into the same core network. You need to employ multiple ISPs and BGP4 routing if you want to maintain service during an ISP core network outage. Zero single points of failure…
